Sunway Group has secured 26th place in Fortune’s 100 Best Companies to Work For™ Southeast Asia 2026, becoming the only Malaysia-headquartered company to make the list.
Founder and chairman Tan Sri Datuk Seri Sir Dr Jeffrey Cheah said an organisation’s long-term strength and sustainability ultimately depended on its people and the values it upheld, beyond business performance.
He said the recognition reflected Sunway’s commitment to creating a workplace where employees could grow and deliver their best work.
“We are honoured to be recognised among the best workplaces in Southeast Asia. This recognition affirms our commitment to building a workplace where our people can thrive and deliver their best work.
“Our journey has been built on trust, guided by our core values of integrity, humility and excellence.
“These values will continue to guide us as we grow alongside the communities we serve and create opportunities for future generations,” he said in a statement.
The list, published by Fortune in partnership with Great Place To Work®, was based on confidential feedback from more than 1.32 million employees across 10 Southeast Asian countries.
To qualify for the assessment, organisations had to obtain Great Place To Work Certified™ status and employ at least 200 people across the region.
Employees evaluated their workplaces through 60 statements and two open-ended questions covering trust, leadership, respect, fairness and pride.
The survey also had to meet specific distribution and response-rate thresholds to ensure the findings represented each organisation’s workforce.
Apart from overall scores, the assessment examined whether positive workplace experiences were consistently shared across different job roles, seniority levels and demographic groups.
Rankings also took into account the size of a company’s regional workforce and the number of countries in which it had obtained certification and conducted employee surveys.
Sunway said its human resources strategy was anchored in the group’s core values and Jeffrey’s “Doing Well by Doing Good” philosophy.
Across its 13 business divisions, the group provides leadership development programmes and opportunities for employees to gain experience across different functions and industries.
According to its Great Place To Work profile, 93 per cent of surveyed employees considered Sunway a great place to work. The group also secured Great Place To Work® Certification™ for the second consecutive year in 2026.
The Southeast Asian workplace recognition was one of three Fortune accolades received by Sunway this year.
In a related development, the group climbed 39 places to rank 151st in the Fortune Southeast Asia 500 companies list.
Sunway Group deputy executive chairman Datin Paduka Sarena Cheah was also named in Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Asia 2026, becoming one of five Malaysians among 100 business leaders recognised across the Asia-Pacific region.
Sunway was also named one of Malaysia’s Best Managed Companies 2025 by Deloitte, retaining its Gold status for the fifth consecutive year.
