Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar has sought an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, to seek an audience and reaffirm his commitment to complying with the King’s decree concerning Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s Conditional Pardon Order in the SRC International case.
According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Saturday, Mohd Dusuki intends to seek forgiveness and express his position on upholding the royal decree.
“The Attorney-General will also explain the legal questions arising from the High Court’s Release Order following the payment of the RM50 million fine, which must be determined by the court as they affect the commencement date of the prison sentence in the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) case,” the statement said.
Previously, Sinar Harian reported that Sultan Ibrahim had said arguments challenging the Conditional Pardon Order, which allows Najib to serve the remainder of his prison sentence under house arrest, could amount to disobeying the royal decree.
His Majesty said there should be no confusion over the interpretation of the order, as the decision granted by the King was clear, explicit and unambiguous.
Following the royal statement, the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) issued a clarification, stressing that it had never questioned, set aside or intended to suspend the Conditional Pardon Order granted to the former Pekan MP.
The AGC also reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the rule of law, respecting the institution of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and recognising His Majesty’s royal prerogative of pardon under Article 42 of the Federal Constitution.
