Authorities have seized nearly 28 tonnes of imported buffalo meat worth RM413,728.89 at Port Klang after detecting suspicious halal certification documents in a suspected smuggling attempt.
The Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) uncovered the shipment on Friday during an inspection of an imported animal commodity consignment from India.
Port Klang AKPS Commander Datuk Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said enforcement officers carried out the inspection at around 10.40am and discovered discrepancies between the halal certificate submitted and the information declared in the import permit.
He said the documents contained details that did not match the declarations made for the shipment.
“The estimated total value of the goods is RM413,728.89.
“Following the discovery, the entire consignment was detained for further investigation,” he said in a statement on Sunday.
Nik Ezanee said AKPS would continue intensifying enforcement efforts and strengthening controls at the country’s entry points to tackle non-compliance, document manipulation and misuse of import procedures.
The seized meat will be handed over to the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Department (MAQIS) for further action and investigation.
The case is being investigated over suspected offences under the Malaysian Quarantine and Inspection Services Act 2011 (Act 728).
