A police officer tragically died after his car was involved in a collision with two lorries at Kilometer 85.3 on the Kuala Kangsar–Gerik–Pengkalan Hulu road near Kampung Tawai on Wednesday.
The victim, 42-year-old Sergeant Detective Mohd Fahmi Arzmi, who served in the Criminal Investigation Division of the Gerik District Police Headquarters, was confirmed dead at the scene due to severe injuries.
Gerik District Police Chief, Superintendent Abdul Samad Othman, said authorities received the report around 1:50 a.m. According to him, Mohd Fahmi was driving a Toyota Vios from Gerik to Kuala Kangsar behind a lorry carrying timber logs.
“At the accident site, a lorry carrying fertilizer from the opposite direction is believed to have lost control and collided with the right side of the timber lorry. The impact caused both heavy vehicles to scrape, after which the fertilizer lorry crossed into the opposite lane and struck the victim’s car,” he explained.
The 23-year-old fertilizer lorry driver sustained head injuries, while the 59-year-old timber lorry driver was unhurt. The injured lorry driver was sent to Taiping Hospital for further treatment.
“The victim’s body has been sent to the Forensic Unit at Gerik Hospital for an autopsy. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” added Superintendent Abdul Samad.
Authorities have urged witnesses or anyone with information regarding the incident to contact investigating officer Inspector Nik Zailan Nik Li at 019-9004785 to assist with the investigation.
