Man Killed, Two Injured In Three-Car Crash During Heavy Rain

Date:

A man was killed while two others were injured in an accident involving three cars at Kilometer 7, Jalan Bahau–Kemayan here during heavy rain on Wednesday afternoon.

Jempol District Police Chief, Superintendent Norhisham Mustapar, said the crash occurred at about 2.20pm when a Perodua Kelisa driven by a 53-year-old local man from Kemayan heading towards Bahau collided with a Toyota Vios coming from the opposite direction.

“At the time of the incident, it was reported to be raining heavily. A Toyota Vios driven by a 39-year-old man is believed to have lost control and veered into the opposite lane before crashing into the Perodua Kelisa.

“At the same time, another vehicle, a Honda HR-V driven by a 41-year-old woman travelling in the same direction as the Perodua Kelisa, was unable to avoid the collision and rammed into the back of the Kelisa,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

He added that the driver of the Perodua Kelisa suffered severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Meanwhile, the Toyota Vios driver sustained a broken right leg, while the Honda HR-V driver suffered only minor eye injuries.

“The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving resulting in death,” he said.

Police also urged members of the public who witnessed the incident to come forward to assist investigations by contacting Inspector Mohd Amirul Syafiq Mohd Yusof from the Jempol District Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division at 016-2348669.
