Chaos broke out at the 3rd Mile Hui Sing Commercial Centre this morning when an elderly man accidentally drove his Perodua Kancil straight into a café shoplot, leaving several customers injured and tables scattered onto the roadside.
According to witnesses, the incident happened when the driver, a Chinese elderly man, mistakenly accelerated after reversing, causing the car to surge forward uncontrollably. The vehicle ploughed through tables and chairs outside the café before slamming into the wall next to the premises.
Fortunately, no one was seated at the table that was directly struck by the car. However, the impact caused injuries to other patrons nearby. A woman sustained bruises to her leg, while another elderly man was knocked to the ground during the commotion.
One female customer recalled, “I had just sat down and was about to eat when the accident happened. Everything happened so fast—the tables and chairs went flying.”
The driver was reportedly in shock following the crash and remained at the scene as bystanders rushed to help the injured.
Authorities are investigating the incident, while the injured victims received immediate assistance. The accident has since drawn attention from nearby shop owners and residents, highlighting the need for extra caution when elderly drivers are behind the wheel in busy commercial areas.
