Trailer Driver Trapped in Agony for 30 Minutes After Highway Collision

A 34-year-old trailer driver was trapped for more than 30 minutes before being rescued after colliding with another trailer at kilometer 205.5 of the North-South Highway (PLUS) southbound earlier this morning.

The accident occurred around 6 a.m., and firefighters managed to free the driver before he was sent to the hospital for further treatment of his injuries.

Melaka Fire and Rescue Zone 2 Chief, Fire Supervisor Tc Zulkhairani Ramli, said emergency services received a call about the incident at 6:17 a.m.

Ten personnel from Alor Gajah Fire and Rescue Station, including the Emergency Medical Rescue Service (EMRS) unit, rushed to the scene to conduct the rescue operation.

“Upon arrival, we found that a trailer carrying particleboard had collided with an iron-laden trailer, and the driver was trapped inside his cabin,” he said.

The victim was successfully extricated using specialized rescue equipment at 6:56 a.m. and handed over to medical personnel before being transported to the hospital by ambulance.
