A man who went missing earlier after slipping off the edge of the Batang Ai Hydroelectric Dam in Lubok Antu, Sri Aman, was found dead tonight.

According to a spokesperson from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department’s Operations Centre (PGO JBPM), the victim, identified as 31-year-old Budak Tom, was recovered by the Water Rescue Team (PPDA) at 7:02 p.m. during a diving search at the bottom of the dam. The body was located at a depth of five meters, within a 30-meter radius of where he was reported to have fallen.

“The victim’s body has been handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for further action,” the spokesperson said.

Based on information from his wife, Budak Tom had gone to the dam’s edge around 3:20 p.m. to relieve himself when he suddenly slipped into the water. He reportedly shouted for help before being carried away by the current.

Six members of the Water Rescue Team arrived at the scene at 5:30 p.m. to commence the underwater search operation, which ultimately led to the recovery of his body.
