Dentist Allegedly Strangles Mother to Claim MYR 65.3 Million Inheritance

Date:

A Beverly Hills dentist allegedly murdered his mother after claiming he hated his parents for “pushing him” into the profession, aiming to inherit a share of her $12 million (≈MYR 65.3 million) estate.

Daniel Yacobi, in 2017, strangled his 67-year-old mother, Violet, and was arrested four months later after a coroner ruled her death a homicide. Concerns first arose on October 10, 2017, when Violet failed to answer a call from her brother, who had offered to take her to a mechanic. It was unusual behavior for Violet, who had been mourning the loss of her husband Solomon, a physician who passed away in 2016.

Violet was eventually found dead at the bottom of the grand staircase in her $8 million (≈MYR 43.5 million) mansion. Initially, Daniel avoided authorities, even posting a Facebook tribute on what would have been Violet’s 68th birthday: “I know you and Dad are up there smiling down on us.” He was arrested in February 2018 and charged with murder.

During the delayed trial, LA County Deputy District Attorney Shane Michael described the murder: “He choked the life out of her and left her in the home where he grew up, went to high school, and graduated college.”

Dean Summers, a neighbor, testified that Daniel had been deeply depressed, admitting he hated his parents for forcing him into dentistry. “He said his mother was very controlling, and he hated both his mother and father,” Summers told the court.
