Taiwanese singer-actor Aaron Yan is back in the spotlight after his recent remarks on Threads reignited controversy surrounding his past scandal. The former Fahrenheit member responded bluntly to netizens who brought up his 2023 suspended sentence over allegations of secretly filming and distributing explicit videos involving a minor.
It began when Aaron commented on the ongoing “Hong Jie” controversy, posting: “Why are people even paying attention to that story? So boring.” A user replied with a news article about Aaron’s own case, saying, “I used to think the same about your news.” Mistaking the comment for support, Aaron replied, “Right? It really wasn’t a big deal—only legal illiterates think it was.”
This sparked backlash, particularly from a lawyer who pointed out that a suspended sentence is still a criminal conviction. “You were convicted and are on probation. That’s not ‘nothing’,” the lawyer wrote. Aaron hit back with, “That’s such a shallow take,” prompting the lawyer to post screenshots of headlines confirming Aaron had admitted guilt and paid compensation. “You pled guilty and paid damages. You should lay low during your probation. By the way, I’m a lawyer—who’s the shallow one now?”
Another user called Aaron out for allegedly filming a sex video with a minor. Aaron responded with strong language: “There was no secret filming. Are you stupid or what?” using a derogatory Taiwanese slang term “北七” (pronounced “bei-chi”, meaning “idiot”).
His harsh words stirred a wave of criticism, with many netizens slamming his lack of remorse and combative tone. The incident has once again placed Aaron under public scrutiny, with many questioning whether he has truly learned from his past.
