29-Year-Old Stabs Mother to Death, Blames Meth-Induced Hallucinations

Date:

A horrifying case of parricide unfolded in Ubon Ratchathani, Thailand, where a 29-year-old man fatally attacked his 60-year-old mother at their home. The mother was found outside the house with multiple stab wounds, her lifeless body covered in blood. Authorities launched a massive manhunt and arrested the suspect at a nearby residence. The suspect admitted to using drugs before the attack, claiming he hallucinated and mistook his mother for a ghost.

According to Thai media reports, the incident occurred on the evening of October 8 in Nong Manau Village, Kularat Subdistrict. Police found the woman lying face down in a chair outside her home with five deep stab wounds to her face, neck, and back of the head. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and nearby police discovered the son’s parole documents.

Investigations revealed that the man had been drinking with friends earlier in the day and refused to take his medication or rest. He suffered from multiple mental health conditions, and neighbors had asked his mother to persuade him to take his medicine, fearing he could harm someone. Later that evening, a heated argument erupted between mother and son, after which he stabbed her multiple times and fled.

Police, along with more than 50 villagers, conducted a search, warning residents to secure their homes as the suspect was believed to be armed. The man was found about 500 meters from the scene and surrendered after being called by relatives. During questioning, he admitted that anger over being scolded by his mother, combined with methamphetamine use and alcohol, caused hallucinations that led him to mistake his mother for a ghost.

The suspect has been charged with murder and illegal use of Class 1 narcotics, and will be handed over to prosecutors for further investigation.
