Man Found Dead With Throat Slashed in Cameron Highlands

Date:

Police have arrested two Myanmar nationals to assist in the investigation of a murder involving one of their countrymen at Taman Oriental Lily, Tringkap, on Monday night.

Cameron Highlands District Police Chief, Acting Superintendent Azri Ramli, said the police received information about the incident at around 11.54 p.m. The victim, a 50-year-old Myanmar man, was found unconscious and covered in blood at the scene. He was rushed to Sultanah Hajah Kalsom Hospital in Tanah Rata but was later pronounced dead on Tuesday. His wife, also aged 50, sustained injuries during the attack.

“Based on information received, police arrested two Myanmar men at the same housing area at about 12.05 a.m. on Tuesday to assist with the investigation,” said Azri in a statement on Wednesday.

He added that several items believed to have been used in the incident — including two knives and a metal rod with wheels — were seized.

“Initial forensic findings showed the victim sustained injuries to the neck, head, chin, right cheek, and below the right ear, caused by a sharp object. The post-mortem conducted at the Forensic Unit of Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA) in Kuantan confirmed the cause of death as a severed carotid artery resulting from a neck wound,” he explained.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. Both suspects have been remanded until Saturday for further investigation.

Azri also urged the public not to spread unverified information about the incident to avoid confusion and speculation.
