The Selangor Public Works Department (JKR) and Kuala Langat district authorities are conducting structural inspections and safety assessments on several public buildings damaged by a severe storm on Wednesday afternoon.
Minister of Works, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, said Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sijangkang Jaya was among the affected premises, with its roof sustaining damage. He advised the school to temporarily suspend classes until the building’s structural safety is confirmed.
“The Electrical Engineering Branch (CKE) of JKR Selangor is also inspecting the affected building’s wiring system as a precautionary measure to prevent accidents,” Alexander stated on Facebook on Wednesday.
He added that a newly completed block under the High-Density Schools Program suffered minor roof damage, and the contractor has been instructed to carry out immediate repairs.
“JKR is preparing cost estimates for cleaning work and asset protection to prevent further damage. I have instructed that all necessary actions be implemented promptly,” he said.
Alexander also expressed sympathy for the victims of the roof collapse at the Sijangkang State Assembly Coordinator Office in Dewan Wawasan Kampung Medan, Kuala Langat.
“So far, I have been informed that a 51-year-old woman was injured after being trapped under debris and was rescued by firefighters before receiving medical treatment. Several students also sustained minor injuries when a roof at the nearby KAFA surau collapsed,” he added.
He advised the public to avoid affected areas to prevent further accidents and urged everyone to prioritize the safety of themselves and their families.
According to Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar, Deputy Director of Operations, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the roof of a nearby building housing the KAFA surau also collapsed, resulting in at least seven students sustaining minor injuries.
