Around 10 homes in Kampung Medan, Telok Panglima Garang were reported damaged after a severe storm accompanied by heavy rain struck the area on Wednesday afternoon.
Colonel (PA) Fazlisyah Muslim, Director of the Selangor branch of the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), said the storm caused roof damage to several houses and affected other nearby premises.
The incident was reported at 4:20 p.m., prompting a six-member APM team to be dispatched to assess the damage and assist affected residents.
“Upon arrival at 5:08 p.m., it was found that the Sekolah Rendah Agama (SRA) Kampung Medan had also been affected, with part of the building damaged and a fallen tree landing on a car in front of the school,” he told Sinar Harian.
APM teams, together with the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM), carried out clean-up operations and removed the fallen tree, he added.
A temporary evacuation center (PPS) has been set up at Dewan Harmoni, Kampung Sijangkang to accommodate residents affected by the storm. Relevant agencies are on site to provide assistance as needed.
Fazlisyah said a detailed report will be issued after the damage assessment is completed and confirmed that APM continues to monitor the affected area.
Meanwhile, Kuala Langat District Officer Tengku Rohana Tengku Nawawi confirmed that the PPS has been officially activated after the area was declared a Level 1 Disaster Zone.
“The Dewan Harmoni center will house victims of the storm for as long as necessary to ensure their safety and welfare throughout the relocation period,” she said.
As the Chairman of the District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD), Tengku Rohana expressed hope that all aid coordination and recovery efforts for affected residents would proceed smoothly.
