Giant 12-Meter 120kg Python Caught After Swallowing Villagers’ Goats in Pekan

Date:

The fears of the local Orang Asli community were finally put to rest after a massive reticulated python, believed to have devoured several goats in the area, was successfully captured in Tanjung Batu, Pekan, yesterday.

The 12-meter-long python, weighing an estimated 120 kilograms, was subdued by a six-member team from the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Pekan after more than an hour of effort.

Pekan District Civil Defence Officer, Captain (PA) Ahmad Azmi Nafiah, said they received a report around 11 a.m., and heavy machinery had to be used to lift and relocate the reptile due to its enormous size.

He explained that the APM officers had to exercise extreme caution throughout the operation, as the python was highly aggressive and attempted to attack several times. The swampy terrain made the rescue even more challenging.

According to local Orang Asli residents, the python had been sighted several times at night within the nearby oil palm plantation, and they strongly believe it was responsible for the mysterious disappearance of several goats.

“The residents are convinced the python, which is active at night, was behind the missing livestock. A reptile of that size could also pose a danger to humans, especially when cornered,” said Ahmad Azmi.

He added that the team’s extensive experience ensured the operation went smoothly without any injuries or incidents.

The captured python has since been handed over to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) for further action.
