A violent stabbing incident occurred yesterday afternoon in Wufeng District, Taichung City, when a 23-year-old man allegedly attacked his neighbors over the volume of their television. The suspect, surnamed Lin, reportedly entered the home of a 70-year-old woman and stabbed her with a fruit knife. A nearby repair shop owner, also 70, rushed to intervene but was stabbed in the left chest and remains in critical condition. Lin was found sitting at the crime scene and was promptly arrested by police.
Prosecutors discovered that Lin had a prior history of violence. Two years ago, he was convicted for attacking a neighbor with a knife. Given his past offenses and the seriousness of the current case, the Taichung District Prosecutors Office filed for Lin’s detention on charges of attempted murder. Evidence included victim and witness statements, surveillance footage, and medical reports. Authorities cited a risk of flight and potential for repeat offenses as reasons for the detention request.
According to court records, Lin previously lived in Taoyuan City and, in December 2023, attacked an upstairs neighbor with a fruit knife over a noise dispute, injuring the man’s face and head. The case was later dropped after Lin reached a settlement with the victim.
In the latest incident, Lin, who is unemployed and living with family, reportedly acted out of longstanding grievances over the 70-year-old woman’s television volume. The woman sustained stab wounds to her left rear neck and forehead but is currently stable. The repair shop owner who attempted to intervene remains critically injured in the hospital. Authorities continue their investigation.
