A horrifying case of child abuse in Kaohsiung has come to light after a mother was found to have forced her nine-year-old daughter to sniff her used sanitary pads and touch her external hemorrhoids. The girl’s father, upon learning of the abuse, filed a domestic violence lawsuit against the mother, seeking NT$2.5 million (about MYR 388,000) in damages. After review, the court ordered the mother to pay NT$40,000 (around MYR 6,200) in compensation. She appealed the decision, but the second-instance court dismissed her appeal, finalizing the case.
According to court documents, the incident occurred between February and March 2021. The mother, referred to as Xiao Hong (a pseudonym), repeatedly forced her nine-year-old daughter to sniff her used sanitary pads and touch her external hemorrhoids on two occasions. The girl’s father, Da Ming (a pseudonym), discovered what happened and sued Xiao Hong for psychological and emotional damages.
The court ruled that as a biological mother, Xiao Hong had a duty to care for and protect her young child. Instead, she subjected her daughter to what the judgment described as “acts intolerable to ordinary people,” causing serious emotional distress and potential long-term harm to the child’s mental development.
After considering Xiao Hong’s social background, financial condition, and the extent of harm inflicted, the court ordered her to pay NT$40,000 to her daughter as compensation. Xiao Hong later appealed the ruling, but the appellate court emphasized that as the mother of a child under 12, she had a moral and legal obligation to nurture and protect her daughter. Her repeated abusive acts, the judges said, were “beyond comprehension,” and the original verdict was upheld.
