A local woman was arrested yesterday for allegedly attempting to smuggle foreign nationals through the special Fast Track lane at the Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) counter at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
According to a statement by the Malaysian Border Enforcement and Protection Agency (AKPS), the 34-year-old suspect is a supervisor at a hotel near KLIA.
“The suspect allegedly tried to bring six Indonesian nationals through the immigration counter using Fast Track passes, allowing them to bypass standard checks and enter Malaysia. The 34-year-old woman is believed to have received payments for each passenger successfully smuggled in,” the statement said today.
The agency noted that the suspect likely carried out the operation without her employer’s knowledge and during her days off.
Further investigations revealed that several hotel staff members were also involved in similar smuggling activities. The operation is believed to have continued for over a year, involving foreign nationals from Indonesia, China, Vanuatu, Cambodia, and Laos.
The suspect has been detained under Section 26A of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007 and is currently held at the Aeropolis Lockup for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the six Indonesian nationals have been placed in the Putrajaya Immigration Detention Depot under the Immigration Act 1959/63 [Act 155].
