The tragic case of a male secondary school student fatally stabbing his senior continues to evoke nationwide mourning. Today, the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim ibni Sultan Iskandar, and Raja Permaisuri Agong Raja Zarith Sofiah personally sent a wreath to Nirvana 2 Funeral Home to pay their deepest respects to the late student, Yap Shing Xuen.

The wreath, personally presented by the King and Queen, was delivered at 12:30 pm by palace officials to the mourning site in Bukit Subang, Kuala Lumpur. A card attached expressed “deepest condolences and eternal remembrance” to Yap Shing Xuen’s family, moving those present at the scene.

Witnesses said the gesture reflected the royal couple’s concern over the campus tragedy and their compassion for the bereaved family, while also symbolizing the collective grief of the nation.

The shocking murder occurred on the morning of October 14, around 9:30 am, at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bandar Utama Damansara 4 in Bandar Damansara, Selangor. A 14-year-old male student, reportedly with mental health issues, entered the school with a knife and followed his 16-year-old senior, Yap Shing Xuen, into the girls’ restroom before attacking and killing her.

Teachers, with the help of the suspect’s older brother, managed to wrestle the knife away and restrain the assailant. Police arrived shortly after and arrested the suspect, who is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code (murder).

The incident has shocked the nation, with the Prime Minister, Education Minister, and numerous community leaders expressing their condolences and concern over the tragedy.
