A 20-year-old man from Santa Teresa, Texas, Kevin Marin, has been arrested and charged with allegedly shooting his mother 11 times while she slept at their home. Marin faces charges of aggravated battery and attempted murder following his arrest on October 13.
Police responded to reports of a shooting at a residence on Ashwood Drive, finding Marin’s mother heavily bleeding in the hallway outside his bedroom. Four other family members, including a child, were present at the time. The victim was rushed to Transmountain Hospital in El Paso and later transferred to University Medical Center, where doctors confirmed she had sustained 11 gunshot wounds. As of October 14, she remained in critical condition.
Authorities report that around 3 a.m., Marin’s brother heard gunshots and found their mother severely injured. He immediately transported her to the hospital. Investigators discovered multiple shell casings from a semi-automatic rifle in Marin’s bedroom, two bullet holes on the west-facing side of the house, and a bloody shoe print under a Jeep Wrangler in the driveway.
According to reports, another woman at the scene returned to the home after the victim was taken to the hospital and found Marin sitting casually on the living room sofa. Marin is currently being held at the Doña Ana County Detention Centre, with prosecutors seeking to detain him without bond under New Mexico’s pretrial detention statute.
