Jealous Husband Tries To Stab Wife To Death Over Butcher’s Meat Discount

Date:

A jealous man in China has been sentenced to more than 10 years in prison after he tried to stab his wife to death — all because she received a discount from a local butcher.

The shocking incident took place in March in Songyuan, Jilin province, when the husband, surnamed Zou, became irrationally convinced that his wife of over 30 years, Zhao, was having an affair. His suspicion started when a butcher at a nearby wet market gave Zhao discounted prices on meat.

Consumed by jealousy, Zou argued with Zhao and later attacked her with a wooden-handled knife that he had hidden in their bedroom. Zhao was stabbed multiple times and suffered serious internal injuries but miraculously survived.

Despite the brutal assault, Zhao refused to pursue legal action or undergo an injury evaluation. She told authorities that she and her husband had always shared a good relationship and that he “always brings all his money home.” Zhao said she forgave him and did not wish to seek compensation or punishment.

During the trial, the Songyuan Ningjiang District People’s Court ruled that Zou’s act constituted intentional homicide. However, since he confessed to the crime and the attack stemmed from a domestic dispute, the court decided on a lighter sentence — 10 years and six months in prison.

The bizarre case went viral on Chinese social media, with many netizens expressing disbelief. One commented, “If they were really having an affair, the meat would be free — not discounted!” Another joked, “Thirty years of marriage destroyed by a pork discount.” Others called the situation “ridiculous” and questioned how Zhao could still forgive him after such violence.
