15-Year-Old Arrested After Copying YouTube Video on How to Steal a Motorcycle

Date:

A 15-year-old boy has been arrested by police after allegedly learning how to steal a motorcycle from a YouTube video — simply because he wanted to own one himself.

According to Workpoint News, the incident took place in Mueang Samut Prakan District, Thailand, where investigators detained the suspect along with the stolen motorcycle.

Mueang Samut Prakan Police Chief, Superintendent Chakkrich Srerojanakul, said the arrest was made following investigations and a review of CCTV footage from several locations.

Initial investigations revealed that the victim had lodged a report on October 9 after discovering that his pink Yamaha Mio motorcycle, which was parked in front of his dormitory, had gone missing the next morning.

CCTV footage from the night of October 8 showed a man approaching the parking area, kicking the motorcycle’s lock until it popped open, and quickly pushing the vehicle away.

Following further intelligence work, police successfully tracked down and arrested the teenage suspect, known only as “Boy,” along with the stolen motorcycle.

Boy confessed to stealing the bike, telling police that after finishing lower secondary school, he had no stable job. Coming from a poor family, he said he could not afford to buy his own motorcycle.

He often borrowed his friends’ motorcycles and admitted that he got the idea to steal one after watching a YouTube video that demonstrated how to do it.

On the night of the theft, he went out searching for a target and found the victim’s motorcycle parked outside the dormitory. He kicked the lock open, pushed the bike home, and replaced the ignition set with a new one — but was arrested before he could ride it.

Police have charged the teenager with nighttime theft and will refer the case to the Juvenile and Family Court for further action.
