Police have arrested a man to assist in the investigation of a young woman who was injured in the lower back, reportedly struck with a sharp object, at Jalan Tangga Batu, opposite Taman Tangga Batu Seksyen 1, Tanjung Kling, yesterday afternoon.
The suspect, in his 20s, was taken into custody at a nearby house at around 10:30 p.m. and is expected to be brought to the Ayer Keroh Court Complex today for a remand application.
Central Melaka District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Christopher Patit, confirmed that the suspect is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code.
According to media reports, the 19-year-old victim, a factory operator, was riding as a pillion passenger on a motorcycle driven by her sister-in-law when the incident occurred at approximately 4:45 p.m. on her way home to Batu 9 Tangga Batu. Both women work at the same factory.
The police are continuing investigations into the attack.
