Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has indicated that Russian President Vladimir Putin intends to attend the 47th ASEAN Summit scheduled for this weekend.
The Prime Minister noted that, for now, only Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister has officially confirmed attendance at the summit.
“During our earlier meeting in Beijing, he told me he would seriously consider attending. At the moment, he has sent the Deputy Prime Minister, but we will know later today whether he will personally come. He expressed interest in attending, and we will see. Officially, only the Deputy Prime Minister is confirmed for now,” Anwar told reporters after attending the PNB Knowledge Forum 2025.
The 47th ASEAN Summit will take place in Kuala Lumpur from October 26 to 28, 2025, under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability.” It will bring together top leaders from the 10 ASEAN member states, as well as key dialogue partners including the United States, China, Japan, Russia, and India.
As host and ASEAN Chair for 2025, Malaysia is expected to play a key role in strengthening regional cooperation across political, security, economic, and socio-cultural fields. Preparations, including technical meetings and diplomatic coordination, have been underway since October 23.
