Police have arrested a local man in connection with a five-vehicle crash on the North Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE) that went viral on social media last Saturday.
Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat, said authorities received the report at 11 a.m. today. Initial investigations by the Central Zone highway investigation unit were handed over to the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) of Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters for further inquiry.
The crash involved two lorries and three other vehicles and occurred at 5:17 p.m. last Saturday.
“A sport utility vehicle (SUV) was reportedly driven recklessly and veered to the right, after which a lorry from behind collided with several vehicles slowing down at the scene,” Shamsudin said.
The 22-year-old SUV driver, who has no prior record, was detained, and a police investigation paper has been opened under Section 42 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for further action.
Shamsudin reminded all road users to obey traffic laws to avoid accidents and emphasized that authorities will take strict action against reckless drivers.
