Teen Suffers Mental Breakdown After Watching Horror Movie in Class

Date:

A teenage girl in China reportedly suffered a mental breakdown after watching a horror movie during a self-study session at her school in Hengzhou, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region — and now, her family is blaming the school.

According to reports, students were allowed to engage in free activities during class, and the girl, identified as Zihan, along with her classmates, decided to watch a horror film — with their teacher’s approval.

But later that same night, things took a terrifying turn. Zihan began acting strangely, mumbling incoherently while speaking with her mother online. Alarmed, her family rushed her to the hospital, where doctors confirmed she had suffered a sudden mental health episode triggered by psychological stress.

Her family now insists the horror movie caused the breakdown and is demanding compensation from the school.

The school, however, has denied negligence, claiming the incident stemmed from Zihan’s internal health issues. Officials argued they already have a comprehensive mental health education system, and therefore, they were only willing to take 10% of the blame.

But the Hengzhou Court thought otherwise — ruling that the school was 30% responsible since the horror movie was screened with the teacher’s permission.

The bizarre case has since gone viral on Chinese social media, with many questioning why a horror film was ever approved as part of a school activity in the first place.
