A tragic accident claimed the life of an 11-month-old baby girl after the car she was in crashed into a herd of cows along Kilometer 49 of Jalan Kerayong–Simpang Kepayang, Bera, on Thursday night.
Bera District Police Chief Superintendent Zulkiflee Nazir said the victim, Nur Adriana Amira Mohamad Norismail, from Felda Purun, was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Klinik Bandar 32.
Initial investigations revealed that the accident occurred at about 9:40 p.m. when the baby’s 22-year-old father was driving a Perodua Bezza from Kepayang toward Kerayong.
“When they reached the scene, a group of cows suddenly crossed the road from the left. The driver could not avoid them and crashed into the animals before veering off onto the shoulder,” he said in a statement on Friday.
The baby’s 21-year-old mother, who was holding her in the front passenger seat, suffered head injuries, while the father escaped unharmed. The victim’s body was sent to the Forensic Unit of Hospital Bera for a post-mortem examination.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, and the car has been sent to Puspakom for inspection.
Two of the cows were killed instantly, while another survived the crash.
Superintendent Zulkiflee added that police and the Bera Veterinary Department had launched an operation later that night to address the problem of livestock roaming freely on roads — but unfortunately, the fatal incident had happened just before the operation began.
