A British family is offering a staggering £180,000 per year (around RM1.05 million or NT$7.17 million) to hire a private tutor for their one-year-old son, aiming to prepare him for entry into elite schools such as Eton, Harrow, and Westminster. The job posting appeared on the Times Educational Supplement (TES) website, and the publication confirmed that the listing is genuine.
According to reports, the family is seeking a tutor with a background in royal or upper-class households, who is well-educated and speaks with “standard English pronunciation.” The role involves nurturing the child’s curiosity, cognitive development, and social refinement from an early age.
The advertisement emphasizes the parents’ goal for their son to eventually gain admission to top schools including Eton, St Paul’s, Westminster, and Harrow. They hope the child will also develop the habits, tastes, sportsmanship, and cultural interests typical of a traditional British gentleman. Examples include learning sports such as cricket, tennis, rowing, equestrian activities, and rugby, as well as being exposed to classical music by Western composers.
Adam Caller, head of the recruitment company handling the search, explained that the couple comes from outside the UK and wants their child to grow up as a “bicultural” child, fully integrated into British society. Caller added that 61 applicants have already applied, many of whom are highly qualified, and interviews are expected to begin next week. The successful candidate could start in mid-November, with the role expected to last several years to guide the child’s early development.
Caller acknowledged that the position may sound “unbelievable, almost impossible,” but confirmed, “This is exactly what we do every day.”
