Oops! Shane Filan Blanks on Verse During First Live Performance of New Westlife Single

Date:

Westlife’s Shane Filan had a moment to remember — or maybe forget — as he blanked on the lyrics to the band’s brand-new single Chariot during its debut performance on Friday night. The 46-year-old singer, performing alongside Kian Egan and Nicky Byrne on Ireland’s Late Late Show, stumbled through a verse, scrambling to improvise lines on the spot. Mark Feehily, who is featured on the track, was absent from the performance due to ongoing health issues.

While the audience didn’t seem to notice the slip, host Patrick Kielty couldn’t resist pointing it out during the interview afterward, joking: “You also surprised the two boys tonight with your new single!” Shane laughed it off, calling it his “new rendition” and explaining: “So it was the world premiere of Chariot, but the second verse I actually sang the wrong line… I actually made up a line tonight. I’m going to blame Mark on it ‘cause it’s Mark’s verse, but sometimes you just have to improvise.”

Despite missing the verse live, Shane reassured fans that Mark’s contribution to the new track remains key. He revealed that Mark won’t join Westlife for their London shows at the Royal Albert Hall or the 25th anniversary world tour, but emphasized: “He’s still a member of this band and sounds great on the new songs. We’ve got four new tracks and an album coming out after Christmas. The new song out next Friday is really upbeat, and it’s great to have him on it.”

Fans got a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Westlife’s upcoming music while witnessing a rare and relatable live slip from Shane — proving even pop icons have their human moments.
