Fire Destroys Three Ferries Under Repair in Langkawi Shipyard

Date:

Three ferries undergoing maintenance at a ship repair yard in Bukit Malut, Langkawi, were destroyed in an early morning fire, but no casualties were reported.

The blaze broke out at around 2:15 a.m., and the Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Kedah Zone 4 Chief, Fire Officer Mohd Zamri Abd Ghani, said authorities received the emergency call at 2:29 a.m. “At the scene, we found that the fire involved three ferries docked at the pier,” he said in a statement.

Firefighters managed to fully control the fire by 3:37 a.m. Another nearby ferry was moved away from the blaze as a precaution. “Overhaul work is still ongoing to ensure there are no hidden fire sources,” Zamri added, noting that the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are under investigation.
