Selena Gomez Gets Real About Mental Health and Finding Joy Again

Date:

Selena Gomez is opening up about how she takes care of her mental well-being.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE at the Rare Impact Fund Benefit in Los Angeles on Oct. 29, the 33-year-old singer and Rare Beauty founder revealed how she lifts herself up on difficult days.

“Some days you just have to let yourself get it out, and then afterwards, a good laugh,” Gomez shared. “I don’t know the key. I just know what works for me — seeing a friend, talking to my therapist, and surrounding myself with people who help.”

The Only Murders in the Building star offered her heartfelt advice while celebrating her Rare Impact Fund, which aims to raise $100 million for youth mental health initiatives worldwide.

Gomez attended the event — hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and featuring performances by The Marias and Laufey — with her husband, Benny Blanco, whom she married in September in Santa Barbara.

Reflecting on the fund’s growing influence, Gomez said, “We are reaching 2 million young people a day. It’s something I couldn’t be more enthused about because we’re seeing real progress on the ground.”

The benefit marked the third annual Rare Impact Fund Benefit, continuing Gomez’s mission to use her platform to inspire hope and support mental health advocacy across the globe.
