Muar Member of Parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman recently completed a triathlon, raising an additional RM1 million for his constituency. While many netizens congratulated him on the achievement, some also offered advice regarding modesty (aurat) and his interactions with Malay actress and rumored girlfriend Bella.
Netizen Madiyana praised Syed Saddiq, noting that as a graduate of the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), he exemplifies education, character, and courage. She highlighted that completing a triathlon is not something most people could attempt, yet the young MP succeeded, reinforcing his image as a people’s hero.
However, Madiyana advised that as a public figure, Syed Saddiq should be mindful of aurat, especially during physical activities. She pointed out that wearing knee-length shorts during the triathlon exposed certain areas and suggested that he could promote appropriate athletic attire for Muslim men, possibly seeking guidance from religious scholars.
She also criticized Bella’s public assistance in helping Syed Saddiq put on traditional Malay attire, stating that such intimate gestures are inappropriate in public without formal recognition. Madiyana emphasized that as someone admired by young Muslim Malays, even seemingly small actions can send a message about upholding cultural and religious values.
Clarifying her intentions, she said she was not claiming moral superiority but was guided by the Quranic principle: “Advise with truth and encourage with patience.” She also mentioned that she had attempted to privately message Syed Saddiq, but was unsure if he would see it. She believes that public figures like him, who are bold and outspoken, can accept constructive criticism, though whether they act on it remains uncertain.
Madiyana concluded that her message is not just for Syed Saddiq but for other Muslim men, urging prominent figures to serve as role models for the community in matters of modesty and conduct.
