Late Actor Chadwick Boseman Honored with Star on Hollywood Walk of Fame

Date:

The late actor Chadwick Boseman, best known for his roles as Black Panther and historical figures in Black American history, will be honored with a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Nov. 20.

Boseman, who passed away in 2020 at age 43 from colon cancer, will be celebrated in a ceremony featuring speeches from director Ryan Coogler, who worked with him on Black Panther, and actress Viola Davis, his co-star in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. His wife, Simone Ledward-Boseman, is set to accept the honor on his behalf.

The star will be located at 6904 Hollywood Blvd. in Los Angeles, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce confirmed. “The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is deeply honored to celebrate Chadwick Boseman’s extraordinary legacy,” said Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame. “His powerful performances and enduring impact both on and off screen continue to inspire generations around the world.”

Boseman earned widespread acclaim for portraying iconic figures such as Jackie Robinson in 42 (2013), James Brown in Get On Up (2014), and Thurgood Marshall in Marshall (2017). His performance as Levee Green in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom earned him posthumous Golden Globe, Critics Choice, and Screen Actors Guild Awards, as well as a 2021 Academy Award nomination.

Davis reflected on Boseman’s legacy in 2020, praising his integrity and zest for life. “Lord knows we all would’ve wanted him to live another 50 years… But I can’t see his life tragically at all. He lived in the moment, squeezing out every bit of life,” she said.

Boseman’s dedication ceremony will be livestreamed on WalkOfFame.com.
