A shocking scene unfolded at a popular riverside lodge in Zimbabwe when a massive crocodile walked straight into a restaurant and climbed onto a kitchen counter, leaving diners and staff in panic.
The incident took place at the A’Zambezi River Lodge, where a 12-foot Nile crocodile was captured on video calmly entering the building before making its way across the lobby floor and into the service area. Witnesses said guests were seen rushing for cover as the reptile moved deeper inside the premises.
Footage circulating online shows the predator using its front legs to hoist itself onto a counter before briefly resting on top, with its tail still dragging across the floor. It later slipped down and was seen moving through the lounge area, further alarming those present.
Wildlife rangers from the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Authority were quickly deployed to the scene. They attempted to guide the animal back towards the nearby River Zambezi, but the crocodile initially resisted efforts to move it.
Eventually, the reptile was safely restrained using ropes and specialist equipment before being transported away and released back into its natural habitat. Authorities confirmed that no guests or staff were injured and no property was damaged during the incident.
Hotel representatives said such encounters are not entirely unusual given the lodge’s close proximity to wildlife habitats, where animals such as hippos, elephants, and monkeys are regularly sighted in the surrounding area.
Experts note that Nile crocodiles are among Africa’s largest predators, capable of growing up to 20 feet in length and known for their powerful hunting abilities, making such unexpected appearances particularly dangerous in populated spaces.
