A 23-year-old man in Japan has gone viral after revealing he is dating his classmate’s 83-year-old grandmother — and both families have given their blessing.
The couple, Kofu and Aiko, were interviewed on the street, where their affectionate bond caught the internet’s attention. In the clip, Kofu holds Aiko’s hand tenderly, while Aiko — with her stylish haircut, painted nails, and youthful voice — charms viewers with her elegance and grace.
Their relationship began over six months ago, with their anniversary falling on Valentine’s Day. Aiko, a former horticulturist who once owned a botanical garden, has been married twice and has children and grandchildren. She now leads a healthy lifestyle, dresses with care, and carries herself with poise, which many say contributes to her youthful appearance.
Kofu, currently finishing university and interning at a creative design company, first met Aiko when he visited her granddaughter’s home — his classmate. He confessed he was instantly drawn to her, and Aiko admitted she felt the same.
The pivotal moment came during a Disneyland trip, where the two, left alone after Aiko’s granddaughter dropped out, shared their feelings under the glow of Cinderella Castle at sunset.
Since then, the pair has been inseparable. They now live together, and while they haven’t spoken about marriage, Kofu describes waking up next to Aiko as the happiest part of his day. Aiko, meanwhile, says she enjoys cooking for him and even appreciates his care — like brushing her teeth before bed.
Though their story has sparked divided opinions online, both families fully support the relationship. Some netizens praise their connection as proof that love has no age, while others question the vast age gap.
Unconventional relationships often stir debate in Asia. Earlier this year, a Chinese entrepreneur made headlines after marrying her son’s Russian classmate, despite a 20-year age gap.
For Aiko and Kofu, however, love is simple: they are happiest just being together.
