A Pennsylvania man was accidentally shot in the lower back after his pet dog jumped onto a shotgun he had been cleaning, authorities said.
The Shillington Police Department reported that the 53-year-old victim had placed the firearm on his bed before sitting down. One of his dogs leapt onto the bed, landing on the gun, which discharged upon impact and struck him.
Police responded to the Berks County residence following reports of the shooting. The man was rushed to a local hospital, where he underwent surgery for his injuries.
Investigators have determined the incident was entirely accidental, with no foul play involved.
