Engagement Cancelled After Woman Discovers Fiancé Using Dating App for Men

Date:

A woman recently opened up about the painful end of her engagement after discovering that her fiancé had been leading a secret double life, a revelation that ultimately forced them to part ways.

In a post on Threads, she explained that she had known her former fiancé since their school days, and they had been together for years before planning to marry. But after he started working as cabin crew following his matriculation, she noticed changes in his behaviour. “I’m not trying to badmouth cabin crew, but this only happened after he joined that career,” she wrote.

The heartbreak came when she uncovered evidence of him being romantically involved with another man. “My heart completely shattered. I secretly checked his phone and found a ‘yellow mask’ app (Grindr), which is a same-sex dating platform,” she admitted. While acknowledging that checking his phone was a breach of privacy, she said the discovery prompted her to confront him directly, leading to their engagement being called off.

Despite her pain, she chose to protect his dignity and kept the true reason for the breakup from her family. “I told my parents that I had lost feelings and that we were no longer on the same path. I felt it was my responsibility to protect his dignity,” she explained, adding that she had advised him about his actions. She described the experience as deeply disappointing, noting, “I thought he would be the imam of my life, but he did this. The disappointment is beyond words. Now, everything is just a memory.”

After a year apart, the pair unexpectedly crossed paths at a mutual friend’s wedding. “We ran into each other at a friend’s wedding. We had been avoiding each other before this. We spoke calmly, and I’ve forgiven him,” she said. She also left a heartfelt message for her former fiancé, should he ever read her story.
