A female passenger has voiced her frustration and discomfort after an e-hailing driver allegedly misused her personal information to try and initiate contact.

In a viral Threads post by @Nhzmysff, the passenger revealed that the driver reached out to her directly via WhatsApp immediately after her booking was confirmed. She said this breached her privacy, as the driver had access to her phone number without using any proxy or privacy protection features.
“Honestly, this isn’t funny. It’s a serious privacy and safety issue,” she wrote. “We use e-hailing services because we feel safe, but if a driver can take a customer’s number and message them personally, it’s really uncomfortable.”
The passenger added that she felt relieved when the driver abruptly cancelled the booking.
The post sparked widespread discussion online, with many advising users to choose e-hailing platforms with stronger privacy safeguards and proven safety records. “Personally, I prefer Grab because it feels more secure,” commented @Germpunyer.
