A Malay hawker sparked online backlash after posting a video complaining about a customer who canceled their order upon hearing that a plate of fried kway teow cost RM59. The hawker joked that the customer seemed shocked, as if the price was RM59,000, and suggested those who “cannot afford it” should go to cheaper restaurants.
In the TikTok video, @mansorchun0 showcased a plate of specialty fried kway teow featuring several fresh prawns, a fried egg, clams, and chili. He explained that a seemingly generous customer ordered the dish with an extra egg but ran away upon hearing the RM59 price.
The hawker emphasized the price was only RM59, not RM59,000, and urged viewers to support him by purchasing his dish. However, the post triggered a wave of criticism online.
Netizens called the price “outrageous,” with some mocking the hawker: “RM59—does that come with lobster, king crab, or lamb shank? Asking for support for sky-high prices is absurd.” Others criticized his attitude, saying, “Even if it were RM1,000, I could pay, but RM59 for this fried kway teow is unreasonable. And shaming customers? Who would want to eat there?”
