A social media influencer in the United States is facing criticism after posting a video showing how to wash underwear using hotel room appliances.
In an Instagram clip, Tara Woodcox explained a so-called “hack” she said she learned from a friend who worked as a flight attendant. She demonstrated placing underwear in a hotel coffee pot, explaining that closing the filter basket and pressing “brew” would push hot water through the fabric.

Woodcox then suggested using a hotel-provided hair dryer to dry the underwear. “You blow-dry those bad boys, and you’ve got yourself a cleaner pair of underwear to wear,” she said. She added that she had discovered the method years ago and did not realise how many people were already aware of it, calling the hack “brilliant.”
The video quickly drew condemnation online. Many commenters expressed disgust and concern for hygiene, warning that such behaviour could endanger the health of future hotel guests.
One user criticised the influencer for lacking consideration for others, while another called the content “unsettling,” fearing that someone might “catch something” by following the instructions. Several viewers said they would avoid using hotel coffee makers entirely in the future, with some noting disappointment in Woodcox’s apparent disregard for common sense.
The controversy highlights the potential risks of viral “life hacks” when hygiene and public spaces are involved.
