Malaysia Airlines has officially resumed direct flights between Kuala Lumpur (KUL) and Brisbane (BNE), reinstating a key route that was paused in March 2023.
The first flight, MH135, departed on 29 November and was met with strong demand, flying 86% full to Brisbane and nearly full at 99% on the return to Kuala Lumpur. Passengers on the inaugural flight were welcomed with goodie bags and had the unique experience of flying on the airline’s special Manchester United–themed aircraft.
Dersenish Aresandiran, chief commercial officer of Malaysia Aviation Group, said the return of the Brisbane route reflects the airline’s commitment to expanding its presence in Australia and enhancing global connectivity. The resumed flights aim to support tourism, business, and seamless travel between Malaysia and Queensland.
Malaysia Airlines will operate the Kuala Lumpur–Brisbane route every Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, departing KLIA at 8:40 pm and returning from Brisbane at 8:00 am. Brisbane is now the airline’s fifth Australian destination, joining Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, and Adelaide.
The airline is also introducing its new A330neo aircraft on selected Australia routes, offering improved comfort, fuel efficiency, and upgraded cabins. By early 2026, Malaysia Airlines plans to operate the youngest wide-body fleet in the Australasia region.
With Visit Malaysia 2026 approaching, the airline hopes more Australians will explore Malaysia’s vibrant city life, scenic islands, diverse cuisine, and cultural attractions. Travellers stopping over in Kuala Lumpur can also take advantage of the Bonus Side Trip programme, allowing visits to destinations such as Penang, Kuching, or Langkawi with no base fare (taxes apply).
The resumed flights also make it easier for Malaysians to visit Queensland, from Brisbane’s riverside dining and museums to the Gold Coast’s beaches, hiking trails, and theme parks such as Dreamworld and Sea World.
Tickets for the Kuala Lumpur–Brisbane flights are now available on the Malaysia Airlines website and app.
