A Malaysian woman has stirred a social media discussion after claiming that a Vietnam roll sold as “salmon” at a Putrajaya Ramadan bazaar actually contained chicken slices.
Sharing her experience on Threads, the woman recounted visiting the Bazaar Ramadan in Precinct 14, where she purchased a roll priced at RM4, labelled “salmon.” She said she was excited to try it, only to discover that the filling was chicken, coloured orange on one side.
“I felt deceived, especially during Ramadan,” she wrote, adding that the incident left her frustrated.
Her post quickly drew attention, gaining over 1,800 likes and more than 370 comments. Many users sided with her, calling the labelling misleading and suggesting that sellers clearly display signage for each item. Others explained that some stalls use processed “salmon-flavoured” rolls, similar to crab sticks, instead of actual salmon, and advised buyers to be cautious.
The discussion took a turn when a woman, believed to be the seller, responded in the comments. She clarified that the roll was never marketed as real salmon and that her staff verbally described each item to customers, without placing written tags.
“Don’t just listen to one side. It’s better to check first,” she wrote, acknowledging the misunderstanding and promising that proper tags would be displayed going forward to avoid confusion, particularly for customers unfamiliar with processed or frozen products.
It remains unconfirmed whether the commenter is the actual seller involved.
