A family’s highly anticipated luxury camping getaway turned into a distressing ordeal after they discovered their expensive accommodation was riddled with mould. Taking to the social media platform Threads, user @Geralynnkong shared a detailed account of the subpar conditions, which eventually forced the group to check out immediately without staying the night. The complainant expressed deep disappointment not only with the state of the facilities but also with the perceived lack of accountability from the site’s management.
The ordeal reportedly began before the family even arrived at the site, as the management allegedly informed them of an overbooking issue at the eleventh hour. According to the guest, the establishment initially requested that they either cancel their trip or reschedule the dates due to administrative errors. Despite the steep price tag of over RM1,300 per night, the family claimed the administrative side of the business was chaotic and failed to provide the premium experience promised by the “glamping” label.
Upon inspecting the assigned tent, the family was shocked to find visible patches of mould and mildew across several sections of the fabric. This discovery raised immediate health concerns, particularly as the group included a young infant. The guest alleged that when these hygiene issues were brought to the attention of the staff, the management appeared dismissive. Instead of offering a solution or an apology, the staff reportedly shifted the blame onto the customers for failing to provide prior notification regarding the presence of a baby.
The situation escalated when the family decided to leave the premises to protect their health, yet no immediate compensation or refund was offered by the provider. The complainant further claimed that shortly after departing from the location, their child began suffering from eye redness and inflammation. This physical reaction has added a layer of urgency to the matter, with the family highlighting the potential medical risks associated with staying in environments contaminated by fungal growth.
The viral post has since sparked a wave of outrage among Malaysian social media users, many of whom criticised the establishment for charging luxury rates while maintaining poor hygiene standards. Commenters pointed out that mould in enclosed sleeping quarters poses significant respiratory and allergic risks. Others urged the family to seek a formal medical report to facilitate a professional complaint or legal action, noting that the “glamour” in glamping is entirely lost when basic safety and cleanliness are ignored.
