A 24-year-old man who faced widespread criticism following a controversial stray dog-catching operation involving a dog named Rocky is expected to be charged at the Sessions Court here this Thursday.
His lawyers, Muhammad Rafique Rashid Ali and Mahmud Abdul Jumaat, confirmed that Muhammad Shah Hizam had been served with a summons by an officer from the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS).
“Yes, I can confirm that Muhammad Shah has been served with a summons by a Veterinary Services Department officer.
“We will be present at 9am on August 20,” Muhammad Rafique told Sinar Harian when contacted.
However, the specific section of the law under which Muhammad Shah will be charged has yet to be confirmed. The charges are expected to be determined and read out in court.
The young man previously came under heavy criticism online after a video linked to the incident went viral on social media. Netizens accused him of acting cruelly and allegedly torturing Rocky during an operation to capture stray dogs at Taman Telok Gedong Indah on July 29.
The allegations sparked widespread anger online, although the circumstances surrounding the incident have been disputed.
Muhammad Shah has also claimed that he received threats against himself and his family following the incident.
The upcoming court proceedings are expected to shed more light on the allegations and the legal action being taken against him.
