A Malaysian woman has sparked backlash online after mocking her sister’s boyfriend for being “too poor,” while insisting that her own partner — a mechanic working in Singapore — is far more “worthy.”
In a lengthy post shared on Facebook page XUAN, the woman said her sister had always been the more successful one in the family, describing her as academically strong, attractive, and given more opportunities in life.
However, she expressed disappointment over her sister’s choice of partner, whom she portrayed as earning an average income, not owning a luxury car, and behaving as if he were “morally superior.”
“He studied overseas, but now earns less than my sister. Yet he acts like money isn’t important,” she wrote.
In contrast, the woman praised her own boyfriend, who works as a car repairman in Singapore. She said he owns a house and drives a Mercedes-Benz, describing him as someone who “earns with his own hands” and is genuinely capable.
She also claimed her family once looked down on her boyfriend because of his lower education level and lack of eloquence, but insisted his financial stability spoke for itself.
The woman said she was particularly irritated by her sister’s boyfriend, accusing him of arrogance for frequently speaking about values and life lessons while dining at their home.
“To me, he’s just poor and proud,” she wrote.
She further expressed frustration that her mother and relatives seemed to favour her sister’s boyfriend, praising him as “honest” and “deep,” qualities she questioned in terms of their ability to support future expenses such as housing, children, and retirement.
The post ended with the woman openly admitting she is materialistic and prioritises financial security over ideals.
“I just want my sister to break up with him. Not because I’m cruel, but because I can’t accept that someone with worse conditions is treated as a better choice,” she wrote.
The post has since gone viral, with many netizens criticising her views on wealth, relationships, and what defines success.
