At least six people, including a three-month-old baby, have been killed after a herd of wild elephants rampaged through a village in India, reports The Sun UK.
The incident occurred around 12:30 a.m. local time in Gondwar village, Jharkhand. The baby, along with three family members, died when 18 elephants attacked the village while residents were asleep.
Vikas Kumar Ujjwal, officer of the East Hazaribagh Forest Division, said another child sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a hospital for treatment.
Locals reported that the herd arrived during the night, smashing through homes and destroying anything in their path, leaving residents terrified.
Vikas urged villagers to remain vigilant and stay away from forested areas. “Our team is monitoring the herd and issuing warnings to affected villages,” he added.
