A 91-year-old Frenchman, Pierre Sablé, has made headlines once more after welcoming his seventh child. Residing in the Eastern Pyrenees near Perpignan, Sablé lives with his 39-year-old wife, and their daughter, Louisa Maria, is now six months old. The news has sparked widespread discussion online.
According to French media outlet France Live, Sablé has fathered seven children in total, each with a different partner. On becoming a father at such an advanced age, he remarked: “Some may find it unusual, but that’s not my concern. I am simply living my life.” He emphasised that his personal choices do not require public justification.
Despite his age, Sablé maintains an active lifestyle. He claims to be among the few nonagenarians able to participate in cross-country and long-distance running, while also managing his land and personal business. “I feel 20 years younger,” he said, jokingly referencing American actor Robert De Niro, who became a father at 79. Sablé quipped that he would like to tell De Niro, “I’ve surpassed you.”
His 39-year-old wife expressed full support, calling him “an excellent father and partner.” She added that while their situation may surprise some, she is happy with their family. She shared that she had been unable to have children during her first marriage and always hoped to become a mother. The couple met while skiing and married in 2023. Sablé stated that love, rather than age, is the key factor in their decision to start a family.
The announcement has provoked mixed reactions online. Some users questioned the responsibilities of fathering a child at such an advanced age, citing the risk that the child may lose their father prematurely. Others speculated about financial motives. Sablé responded: “Everyone who knows me knows I do what I want. I don’t owe anyone an explanation,” asserting that his family is welcoming the new life calmly and can provide a stable environment.
With the arrival of Louisa Maria, Pierre Sablé has once again captured media attention, reigniting conversations around late-age parenthood and modern family dynamics.
