Exactly two weeks ago, passengers at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 experienced an unexpected shower when water leaked from the rooftop, creating an impromptu waterfall.
The incident later became the subject of a stand-up comedy routine by local comedian Dr Jason Leong, sparking mixed reactions on social media.
In a clip lasting about one-and-a-half minutes, Leong poked fun at Singaporeans, urging them not to be “lan**” (Hokkien slang for arrogant) for boasting about the iconic waterfall at Jewel Changi Airport. He highlighted that Malaysia had its own version at KLIA, albeit unintentionally.
“At Terminal 1 KLIA… literally in the middle of the airport, there was a leak in the roof. It was raining, and we had a waterfall, okay? Don’t be lan**. We also can (have a waterfall), okay?” he told a laughing and applauding audience.
Leong also joked that while Singapore spent a fortune constructing its airport waterfall, Malaysia got one for free due to the leak.
The comedy bit has divided netizens. Some criticized him, with comments suggesting he was “not fit to be Malaysian” and calling for him to give up his citizenship.
Others defended Leong, saying he was merely stating facts and that learning to laugh at oneself can promote self-reflection and improvement.
