A Malaysian man has shared a cautionary tale about the dangers of excessive sugar consumption after losing both legs due to complications from diabetes.
In a TikTok video, the middle-aged man recounted how his habit of drinking Coca-Cola or Pepsi mixed with condensed milk every night while hanging out with friends ultimately cost him his mobility.
“I never thought I was addicted, but the taste was too good to resist,” he admitted, showing deep regret over his lifestyle choices.
The man explained that despite attempts to manage his health, his diabetes progressed to the point where doctors had no choice but to amputate both legs to preserve his life.
In the video, he expressed remorse over his unhealthy habits, placing his face in his hands in despair.
For context, a standard 12-ounce bottle of Coca-Cola contains 39 grams of sugar, equivalent to about 10 teaspoons—over 80% of the recommended daily sugar intake for a healthy adult, according to Coca-Cola’s official website. Regular consumption of such sugary drinks increases the risk of obesity, diabetes, and severe health complications.
His story serves as a stark warning about the long-term consequences of overindulging in sugary beverages.
