A woman in Manila has gone viral after discovering that the “Buddha” she had been praying to for four years was actually a 3D-printed model of Shrek.
According to the South China Morning Post, the lime-green figurine, with its round body and calm expression, had been placed on her home altar, where she offered daily incense and prayers. She had bought the statue from a local shop, believing it to be a depiction of the Buddha.
The truth came out during a visit from a friend, who noticed the unusual colour and facial features and pointed out that the figure was not a religious icon at all, but the famous DreamWorks cartoon ogre.
Instead of being embarrassed, the woman took the revelation in stride. She said her devotion had always been sincere, adding that what mattered most was the intention behind her prayers rather than the object itself.
Her calm reaction struck a chord online, with many netizens agreeing that faith comes from the heart. One user commented that it did not matter who or what she had been praying to, as long as her intentions were good.
The woman has reportedly decided to keep the Shrek figure on her altar, saying it still represents the peace and comfort she felt during her years of prayer.
